LATEST WORLD CUP NEWS... (posted 25th October 2003)
Last night the Kiwis smashed the Tongans 91-7 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane running in a walloping 13 tries to the Tongans one. If I didn't know the date, I'd have thought it was Black Friday! Certainly, it was for the Tongans, who spent most of the game trying to stop the All Black steam train from flattening them. Unfortunately, they could do little to stop the one way try scoring Kiwi machines. Full match report here.

In Sydney last night the South African Springboks took on the minnow team of Georgia. Georgia was yet to score a try in the Rugby World Cup 2003, and South Africa trotted out mostly their second string players. The game turned out to be just fine though, enough to scare the stoney faced Boks - and the Georgians totally delighted the spectators with their relentless heart and determination. And yes, their did score a try :) before the Boks ran in a late four tries to take the match and five points for the ladder - 46-19. Full report is here.

Today my beloved Wallabies take on Namibia down in Adelaide - here's hoping that the 'second stringers' who I reckon should be first stringers put on a good show. Chris Latham do us and yourself proud :) Good luck too to Nathan Grey - also making his first RWC 2003 appearance, and David Croft and Matt Giteau on their first starting side go. A bonus point would be nice guys! Doesn't hurt to put my order in does it? heh..

The second game for today is between Italy and Wales in Canberra. Both teams are vying for a quarter final berth in this match - well they might as well be. If Italy wins today then Wales will have to beat New Zealand in order to finish ahead of Italy on the points table. If Wales wins though, then the Italians could well be finished for the RWC. Both coaches are trying to say that they're the underdogs for the game - but Italy beat the Welsh in February as part of the six nations tournament. Prior to that, Wales have beaten the Italians 7 times. Should be a cracker of a game!

If you're not totally buggered after those two games, the French take on Scotland in Sydney tonight. The Scots will be missing Martin Leslie who has been suspended for 12 weeks on a kneeing charge, but they intend to rattle France's cage a bit. I think that the French will win this game, but even if Scotland loses, provided they beat Fiji next weekend, they should make it through to the quarter finals.

Birthday wishes today go to Martin Leslie from Scotland, Fiji's Richard Nyholt, and Uruguay's Rodrigo Sanchez!

Wow! What another Super Saturday of rugby - make sure you have enough stamina left for the two games tomorrow though:)
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Later :)
