October 25 Match

WHAT'S HAPPENING? (posted 26th October 2003)
More than 22,000 fans turned out in Canberra last night to see the much awaited Wales clash with Italy. The match was very important for both teams as they were looking to secure their spots in the quarter finals. In a gruelling clash, Wales emerged victorious - 25-15, booking themselves a QF berth.

You have to feel a bit sorry for the Italians, they only had three full days to recover from their last game against Canada. Although the Azzurri were stuffed, they didn't give up for the full eighty minutes. Wales notched up their points with tries from Mark Jones, Sonny Parker and Daffyd Jones. Harris converted those three tries, and also slotted two penalty goals. Italy were tryless at the end of eighty minutes, their 15 points coming from the boot of Rima Wakarua who kicked five penalty goals.

The Welsh get to play the All Bads next weekend - yikes :) and if they lose then they'll play the poms in their quarter finals match in Brisbane.
