What's happening England - Georgia
October 12 Match
WHAT'S HAPPENING? (posted 13th October 2003)
Good grief! One must feel a bit sorry for the Georgia rugby union team after the hiding they
took from the Poms over at Subiaco Oval in Perth on Sunday night. What a mob of posers! 84-6 - it hurts
even to type the score!!
A pile of Pommies turned out to witness the smashing of Georgia. Early on in the game though things were going okay for
Georgia. Jonny Wilkinson (not rested as I predicted) kicked a penalty goal within the opening few minutes, but the Poms looked
kind of nervous especially when Malkhaz Urjukashvili booted a ball to level the scores. Ahh.. yes... if 'only' the full time whistle could
have blown then! But nooooo, the Georgian guys had a long way to go yet in their very first world cup rugby game :(
The fifteen minute mark saw Tindall go over for a try which Wilkinson converted (how un-surprising!),
and then Mat Dawson scored, and scored, and scored... 34-3 at half time.
But the pain hadn't even begun for Georgia. Dallaglio went over, Grayson converted, Greenwood scored, Grayson blew the conversion kick,
Georgia got a penalty kick over, but then it was back to the Pommy Pummeling Squad.
Regan (hooker) scored, Grayson converted. God this is boring.. LOL I think I might be mixing up who scored when but what the hell, you get the drift I'm sure.
Yawn! Cohen scored, Grayson converted, (repeat). Jason Robinson got in on the act as did Dan Luger.
Thankfully the full time whistle finally blew. Georgia must feel somewhat disheartened at such an annihilation. Sure, the England side is the red hot favourites, but still...
that's gotta hurt!
The unfortunate part for England is that they suffered some injuries during the game. Martyn Wood has been called up from England as a replacement.
Matt Dawson hurt his knee, Kyran Bracken has a back problem, while Gomarsall - replacing Dawson - injured his ankle with minutes to go in the game.
I don't know whether the Poms are trying to bung on bit of an act before their match against South Africa or if it's just one of those whining Pom type things.. :))
Grewcock apparently hurt his toe while warming up!!
We'll see how all of their injury woes pan out over the next week..
