Bugger! I'll have to watch Telly!

posted 23rd Feb 2003

Well I'm back again. I have more ticketing issues to examine. Actually, I don't really have too many issues, I'm sulking because I didn't score a ticket to any of the prime matches in the World Cup lucky Dip!

For those of you who don't know, the Pool match ticket allocations happened months ago, and for every pool match ticket that you got, you got an entry into the ballot for the 'prime matches' - quarter finals and upwards. Last week, the World Cup crew pulled out the lucky ballot numbers and published them. With great excitement I bolted down to the local shop to grab my copy of the paper - yes, I flung it open to the pages where the lucky ticket winners would be announced, and there on the page before me was a whole pile of numbers! Huh? What? Doh! I had to find the pool match confirmation letter before I could find out whether or not I'd gotten tickets to the Prime Matches.

Yeah right... of course I knew where the letter was... NOT! At this point I want to say in my defence, that the confirmation letter for pool match tickets came at some stage before the end of last year - and well, I hadn't realised that I would need the letter to check if I'd gotten Prime Match tickets or not.

A furious and fast ferret through my desk proved fruitless, though I did find a page that had come with the confirmation letter - so even though I had no idea where I'd put the actual letter, I was quietly confident that I hadn't thrown it out...it was probably 'somewhere' on my desk.

Of course, finding things on my desk can be a difficult task! As you can see from the pic to your left
(<-----) I am obviously a very hard working webmaster who doesn't have a great deal of time for desk organisation ;)

By about 2pm I'd finally located the elusive confirmation letter - right there in my desk where I'd put it for safe keeping. Particularly annoying was that I'd been cursing all morning because I reckoned I should have been told by the RWC crew that I would need the damn letter to check the Ballet results, and there in black and white (bold to boot) on the letter is says: Your Account number and Ballot number is: ... hmmm.. seems maybe I could have, should have, read that a bit more closely months ago when I got the letter. No mind, I could now look up the 8 games and start planning my junket!

Game 1...my number's not there, Game 2 not there either..., Game 3, or there...and so it continued.... I checked twice even, my number still wasn't there.

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger!! Seems I'm not the only one to dip out though - a quick ask around of my 'rugby community' peers revealed as much. Still, it's the luck of the draw I suppose, and I'll just have to come to grips with the fact that I'll be watching the Finals on the Telly like millions of other rugby fans around the world. At least this time round I won't have to be watching in the early hours of the morning :) I hope readers, that you had significantly more luck in the Prime Matches first round ballot than I did! For those of you who have scored tickets, enjoy!!
